Joan Englefield has kindly provided the following information about the window in the North wall of St Teresa's:
“I would have liked to buy a seat in memory of my Frank but someone had beaten me to it. So, my daughter suggested that that I might brighten up the church with a new window. Canon Charles was all for it but had to get permission from the diocese which was granted as long as the design was simple. As Frank died on St George’s Day, I chose him as the theme of the window. Canon Charles said he knew someone in Hastings that did stained glass work and arranged for him to come and meet both of us. He showed us a number of sample designs and we liked the one now installed. We added the angel in the corner as I had heard somewhere that Englefield meant ‘angel’s field’. I still love it very much and think of Frank every time I look at it. Frank was a simple countryman and we used to come to the churchyard frequently and just sit in the cemetery and pass the time of day chatting on all sorts of things. He called it God’s garden.
I hope you like the window as much as I do.”
