Progress Report

Several offers of help have come in, and I hope the blog will have a lot more in it by next week-end. I've spoken at length to Canon Charles and will include his introduction to "A Rural Idyll" which summarises the history of St Teresa's. Pamela Bourne has kindly put me in touch with Michael Bristow-Smith, of the Sheila Kaye-Smith Society, who has agreed to let me post his history of the founding of our church on the blog, and possibly also as a handout at the celebration lunch. He is copying a photograph of Sheila Kaye-Smith with her husband, Theodore Penrose Fry. Mgr Ted is going to help me find some pictures of Canon Hopetoun Currie, our parish priest for over 50 years. Father Ed is, I hope, going to send us some information about the tapestry his Peruvian parishioners so generously made for us as a token of their thanks for our financial support. I have found some more details about the much admired little sculpture of "Christ on the Ass 1954",(see below). This was presented by Mrs Michael Keeling, and had belonged to her mother. It is by David Wynne, born in 1926 and famous for his "Boy on a Dolphin" public sculpture near Chelsea Bridge.

I hope this blog will be used to collect reminiscences, photographs etc. about St Teresa's, particularly those relating to the Church's earlier years. Please post on the blog any material you may have, or e-mail it to lyoulten@aol.com or send it to me by post, Lawrence Youlten, at Periteau House, High Street, WINCHELSEA, TN36 4EA
Phone me on 01797 224045 if you have any queries.
